Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden

Welcome to Sweden and Stockholm Archipelago. A remote place. Yet close.

Nature in the archipelago makes no apologies. The sea and the weather do not adapt to you. But nature welcomes you just as it is. Sometimes harsh and cold. Sometimes embracing and warm. Always stunning. Just to enjoy.

Are you adventurous, or do you seek the tranquility of nature? The Stockholm archipelago offers both. Nearly 30,000 islands invite you to unique experiences, ranging from physical activity to meditative recovery. The archipelago consists of a variety of nature, larger and more lush islands in the south to the northern more barren archipelago, always with a glimpse of the horizon.

Imagine gliding in a kayak over calm waters, between green islands and bare rocks. Paddling is more than an activity, it’s meditation in motion. Let an experienced guide take you on a journey of discovery through hidden coves and to secret gems that no one else can find. An evening kayak trip followed by dinner under the stars is an experience you’ll never forget.

Or have a nature guide show you beaver lodges, seal colonies and watch all the white-tailed eagles. And hear what nature has to offer for edible.

Fishing with a guide and cooking your freshly caught fish over an open fire, tasting the archipelago is a big part of the experience with us. Our local ingredients tell stories from sea and land. Restaurants in the archipelago that offer culinary travel adventures are scattered across the islands, each with its unique charm.

Falling asleep and waking up in our archipelago can be very different experiences. If you want to wake up with soft down bolsters in a comfortable, historic archipelago hotel or if you want to fall asleep with the starry sky above and wake up with nature outside the door, you can spend the night in a simple, but comfortable archipelago hut or a glamping tent.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore the islands on foot. Hike through pine forests, over cliffs and along sandy beaches, always with the sea as your constant companion. The Stockholm Archipelago Trail, SAT, offers both hiking and island hopping with its 270 km of hiking on 22 islands. During the summer, you can take the boat North-South line, that takes you to all the islands or choose one or more stages and go out all year round with different boat lines. The SAT is a marked hiking trail with reflectors that make the trail a perfect way to experience the archipelago’s scenic landscape all year round.

The archipelago is also a place for contemplation. A warm bath in an archipelago sauna with a view of the horizon, followed by a dip in the cool, clear waters will relax you after a day full of activity. Many islands have excellent spa facilities. Perhaps you’d like to treat yourself to a nice massage or some other treatment? The trip out into the archipelago is part of the adventure. Choose between fast RIB boats, sailing, helicopter, taxi boat or travel with Waxholmsbolaget, whatever your choice of transportation, it will be part of the experience.
